Cybersecurity in Product Development

The WEBER SYSTEMS GROUP has had its cybersecurity management system certified to ISO/SAE 21434. This establishes a foundation for the group to meet regulatory requirements such as UNECE R155 and strengthens the integration of cybersecurity into product development.

A cybersecurity management system for automotive applications has been certified. The certification is valid for three years and confirms that the group has established structured processes for implementing cybersecurity requirements throughout the entire product lifecycle.

The ISO/SAE 21434 standard defines requirements for the development of secure electrical and electronic systems in the automotive environment. The focus is on a risk-based approach in which potential threats are identified early on, assessed, and taken into account in product development.

With this certification, the WEBER SYSTEMS GROUP strengthens its ability to integrate cybersecurity requirements into development projects. This is becoming increasingly important due to the growing proportion of software and the increasing connectivity of systems in the automotive sector—for example, in steering and suspension systems.

Yannick Weber, COO of the group, comments: “For us, cybersecurity is an integral part of modern product development. The certification confirms that we develop our systems holistically—not only in terms of functionality but also with regard to digital security—and thus meet our customers’ requirements.”

Foundation for Regulatory Compliance and Customer Requirements

The certification also addresses regulatory requirements. For example, UNECE Regulation R155 mandates the introduction of a cybersecurity management system to ensure the risk-based implementation of security measures. ISO/SAE 21434 serves as proof that the relevant structures and processes are in place.

Furthermore, the certified management system forms an important foundation for future requirements under the Cyber Resilience Act. At the same time, the WEBER SYSTEMS GROUP is thereby addressing specific expectations from customers who require a systematic and traceable implementation of product cybersecurity.

“With ISO/SAE 21434 certification, we have established a cybersecurity management system that enables us to pursue a consistently risk-based approach to product cybersecurity. This creates the conditions for implementing security requirements in a structured and traceable manner.”
